CHASE ARCHIVES

2008

Most noteable chases were May 22 during the severe outbreak in SoCal with a tornado warned storm over Perris, and the snow event in Riverside County on December 17. This was also the first year gearing up with mobile data, streaming, and dash-mounted video camera.

January 24, 2008 - Tustin, CA

Quick intercept of a squall line in Tustin (Orange County) during my morning commute. Observed some lowerings and a brief cold-air funnel.

March 15, 2008 - Eastvale, CA

Cold front boundary from Chino to Fontana with embedded thunderstorms. Nothing much more except some lightning and cool looking clouds.

May 22, 2008 - San Gabriel Valley to Lake Elsinore, CA

Severe thunderstorms broke out across a wide area of Southern California due to a massive cutoff low centered over Utah. This chase began with intercepts in the San Gabriel Valley and ended with an intercept of a tornado warned storm moving into Lake Elsinore. That storm produced twin tornadoes In Moreno Valley and Perris as I was approaching its southwest side near Lake Elsinore. My only capture on this tornado warned storm was a brief funnel over I-15 near Indian Truck Trail.

November 1, 2008 - Rancho Cucamonga/Upland, CA

Intercept a severe thunderstorm moving across the western Inland Empire and into the San Gabriel Mtns north of Upland and Rancho Cucamonga along a vigorous cold front boundary.

November 26, 2008 - Corona/Norco, CA

Quick chase during a cold front boundary passage in the Corona and Norco area.
