CHASE ARCHIVES

2009

February 16, 2009 - Long Beach/Anaheim/Riverside/Corona, CA

Slight Risk of severe storms which included a risk for tornadoes. Started chase in northeast Long Beach where I intercepted a strong squall line and spotted a brief funnel cloud embedded in the line. Continued the chase east through Anaheim Hills and eventually Riverside. Later, strong thunderstorms formed over south Corona with hail, and some flash flooding in northern Lake Elsinore.

May 29, 2009 - Hesperia, CA

Quick chase in Hesperia as thunderstorms break out in the high desert due to a rogue cutoff low off Pt Conception.

June 3, 2009 - Lake Elsinore to Romoland, CA

Meandering cutoff low off Southern California coast develops a diffluence zone across San Diego County and the Inland Empire. Line of training thunderstorms form during the morning pretty much lasting the whole day.

October 13, 2009 - La Canada, CA

Remnants of a western Pacific typhoon combine with a GOA low that moved into Southern California. Targeted La Canada Flintridge as they prepared for flash flooding and debris flows in wake of the Station Fire's affects on surrounding mountain slopes. No flooding or flows observed while I was there.

November 28, 2009 - Lake Elsinore/Temecula, CA

Cold core low moved into Southern California. Strong thunderstorms formed from Lake Elsinore to Temecula. Great structure, and some rotation observed in Temecula
