2017

January 20, 2017 - Southern California

A powerful Pacific storm system slammed into Southern California. It was considered the reminiscent of a similar storm that hit here on January 19, 2010, almost 7 yrs to the day. I chased this storm which delivered extreme rains, winds, and flooding. Several severe thunderstorms with tornadic signatures were generated along the coastline in Huntington Beach, Oceanside, and San Diego . There was a marginal risk of tornadoes issued by the Storm Prediction Center, however no waterspouts or tornadoes were reported from the storms that at least had the appearance of producing something.

January 23, 2017 - Inland Empire, CA

Strong cold core low created conditions favorable for brief rotating storms along coastal Orange County and the IE.

February 17, 2017 - Oceanside/San Clemente, CA

A powerful Pacific system slammed into Southern California. Conditions favorable for rotating storms, waterspouts and flooding. Several marine warnings were issued but no waterspouts were reported.

March 22, 2017 - Inland Empire, CA

Cold core low sliding through Central California created enough instability in Southern California to trigger scattered but isolated thunderstorms in several areas, mainly the mountains and deserts. A few promising moments along the Elsinore Convergence Zone prompted me to hit the road and head to Perris during the afternoon. I arrived ended up in Lakeview to watch some interesting structure try, but fail, to organize. After dusk several thunderstorms did intensify over the mountains giving a spectacular lightning show visible for 60 miles.
