CHASE ARCHIVES

2019

January 12, 2019 - Perris, CA

Intercepted convective activity along the Elsinore Convergence Zone over Perris.

January 31, 2019 - San Clemente-San Diego, CA

Storm chasing along the Southern California coast between San Clemente and San Diego. Encountered heavy rain, lightning, and unique storm features. On this day the Storm Prediction Center issued a marginal risk for severe storms and tornado potential along the SoCal coast.

February 21, 2019 - Temescal Valley, CA

Advancing Canadian airmass arrives in Temescal Valley as it brings widespread snow flurries across Southern California.

March 20, 2019 - Inland Empire, CA

Storm chased around the Inland Empire region. Conditions were favorable for brief low topped supercell activity, which several did occur. Observed remarkable mesocyclonic rotation along a boundary in the area bordering Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Perris from a vantage point in Lake Matthews. Impressive wall cloud and rotating lowerings.

March 21, 2019 - Temescal Valley/Lake Elsinore, CA

Quick storm chase around the Temescal Valley and Lake Elsinore areas.

April 22, 2019 - French Valley, CA

Storm chased around the French Valley area in Southern California's Inland Empire region as a cold core low sliding into western Arizona produces conditions suitable for sub-severe thunderstorms in the area.

April 29, 2019 - Perris, CA

A weak late season cold core low rotated directly through Southern California. I positioned myself in Perris directly under the Elsinore Convergence zone and watched the stationary boundary try its hardest to make things interesting. Saw two funnels, a wall cloud, and an amazing sequence of sub-mesoclonic circulation depicted in timelapse.

May 6, 2019 - Perris, CA

Late season cold-core low moves across SoCal. Widespread thunderstorms across the area including Inland Empire.

May 22, 2019 - Perris, CA

Deep cold-core low triggers widespread thunderstorms across Southern California on this 11th anniversary of the May 22, 2008 severe outbreak that spawned twin tornadoes in Moreno Valley and Perris on that day. This setup was hauntingly similar although no storms achieved severe levels. Tracked this storm through Perris and eventually Lake Elsinore before raining itself out. Lots of lightning and some pea-sized hail.

May 29, 2019 - Phelan/El Mirage, CA

Chasing around the high desert communities of Phelan and El Mirage in Southern California as a weak shortwave rotated through the area. Pretty much just a day of chasing exercise as storms were weak.

November 20, 2019 - Murrieta/ValleyCenter, CA

Cold core low drops over Southern California triggering numerous thunderstorms including low-topped supercells from Los Angeles to San Diego.
